On the footplate of this early Australian built locomotive. Simplicity personified, if rather dated by contemporary European and American standards.

The low set horizontal cylinders with vertically mounted slide valves. Notice the exposed tail rods on the valve stems and the date: March 24 1887 on the cylinder end cover.

The slide bars and leading coupled wheel. Wheel casting reads 'Vickers, Sons & Co 1875'. Perhaps they are replacements for the original set.

The Trailing coupled wheel. Wheel casting also reads 'Vickers, Sons & Co 1875'.
