The NCB shed at Philadelphia after steam working finished. The remaining locos stood abandoned in the derelict shed. No 5 is on the extreme right of the photo - too close to the doors to get much of it in the photo - but you can see hoe things were in 1969.

Climbing the bank into Goathland, No5 approaches an encounter with diesel hydraulic No D1048 'Western Lady'. What an unlikely pair to find on a North Yorkshire branch line! You can make your own mind up as to which is the MOST unlikely of the two.

Running bunker first on a train from Pickering, No5 passes Fen Bog as it approaches the summit of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. But this was a long time ago. One day we may see her in action once more.

It's a long time since No.5 hauled a train and its overhaul will be prolonged as it needs a new cylinder block. As the photo shows, after many years in storage it has been stripped of its side tanks and cab and the boiler loosened in anticipation of a boiler lift at some point.
