The two surviving Bagnall tank locos built for the Steel Company of Wales at the North Tyneside Railway on 30th April 2022. Leading loco is 'Victor' (2996/1951) visiting from the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway with 401 (2994/1950) behind. 'Victor' wears the paint scheme of its days with the British Motor Corporation as would have 401 when It carried the name 'Vulcan'. Both names honoured the Royal Air Force's 'V' bomber fleet - the Handley Page Victor and the Avro Vulcan.

A side view of 'Victor' taken on 30th August 2024. This shows the loco's Walschaert's valve gear well. Having all the valve gear accessible outside the loco frames was an advance for British industrial locomotive design in 1951 and so was the use of roller bearings throughout the valve gear - something main line steam never aspired to have in the UK.

A view of the footplate of 'Victor' taken on 30th August 2024. Very traditional, despite the other improvements in the design of the loco.
