The road engine origins of this loco's design are clear in this photo from the rear, although it is not a conversion, it was built for railway use.

The front end of the loco. Notice the maker's name cast into the leading wheels and the classic traction engine location of the single cylinder atop the boiler. The smokebox and chimney are long gone. Notice the flywheel on the opposite side of the loco on the right. Essential on a single cylinder machine.

Seen head on, the front tube plate, still fully tubed dominates the photo. But look above and the cylinder end cover and vertically mounted slide valve cover are clear to be seen. Notice the braking system on the front wheels - not so very effective, I'd guess
