The two Chinese QJ 2-10-2's operating in the Quad Cities area have been added to our database. Thanks to Tom McNair for several excellent photos of these two locomotives.

Departure of Google Ads
July 24th, 2006Some of you may have noticed the departure of the Google AdSense ads from the front page of the website, and since I've already received a couple of emails asking why, I thought I'd explain here.
Recently, the ads that Google began serving through our site were ones that had only a very superficial relationship to the topics of this website. They were ads which contained the word 'locomotive' and tried to do everything from selling insurance to attracting people to an auction website unrelated to anything on this site.
Revenues from the ads were, of course, miniscule. Since Google seemed unwilling or unable to serve ad content related to the site, and since calling them to ask them NOT to serve a particular ad seemed to have little effect, we decided to ditch the ads.
Hope that explains things.

Costa Rican Steam Locomotives

Thanks to the efforts of site visitor, Tom Gears we've added three locomotives in Costa Rica to our database, along with his photographs. We also have a couple of album photos from Tom which will be added to these locomotives shortly.
Tom says that there are rumored to be two other locomotives in Costa Rica but he was unable to locate them while he was there. One of the locomotives (shown below) is only the second preserved Dickson Manufacturing Co. locomotive that we know of.

Canadian National 2-6-0 No. 96

While working on the database today, I made an odd discovery: CNR 2-6-0 No. 96 was located in Morgan Run, OH, Canada, thus rendering Ohio as a province of Canada. Fixed that error and updated the locomotive's ownership history to show it as the property of the Ohio Central since 1994. Photo below shows it at Morgan Run:

Otto Chemical 0-4-0T C/N 370

Thanks to information provided by site visitor Ernest Hunt, we were able to correct records for this locomotive, which is now in private hands in Big Indian, NY and undergoing restoration.
We listed the locomotive, which went out of service in 1970 as being stored at the Otto Chemical plant in Pennsylvania, and listed a second 0-4-0T at the Empire State Railroad Museum in NY. The second listing was a duplicate of the first, and the two have been consolidated.
Once again site visitor input contributes to the correction of our database. Many thanks to Ernest Hunt!
